I put these together because I am sick of reading girls putting themselves down on tumblr because they don’t look like any of these women. There are things called high end cosmetics and photoshop that make these women look perfect by hiding their blemishes and wrinkles. The truth is they can afford far better makeup than you. The stuff they use is almost magic. And we all know the things they can do with photographs these days. Strip all that away and they’re just like you. You also have to figure how many of these women had cosmetic surgery. There is no so such thing as a perfect and flawless looking person.

Long overdue post…puts things into a more balanced perspective. Thank you for this compilation.

So you’ve been bitten by a zombie. So long, conscious brain activity, hello craving for human meat. But the protagonist of the short film Cargo has bigger problems than his impending demise: he has to find a way to save his infant daughter, even if he has to die first to do it.

Directed by Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke, Cargo was a finalist in Tropfest Australia 2013. It’s also a rather clever take on zombie genre tropes, with a story that isn’t about the survival of self, but the survival of another.

All right a 7 minute short should not make me cry so much.

This is great storytelling, no words needed.

I hear some people (particularly feminists) say over and over again that they shouldn’t be put down for screaming at other people during debates because they have the right to be angry and to express that anger. I won’t deny that you have the right to be angry at misogynists, you absolutely do, and I know there are some people who, when they tell you to “calm down” or “lower your voice” are doing so because they don’t think women are allowed to be loud. Let me tell you, though, that’s not why I do that to people. It has nothing to do with your gender, it’s just that I sometimes have trouble processing what you’re saying (partly because of my anxiety and fear of confrontation) if you’re screaming directly at me. I have no doubt that this is often the case for many other people.

While it’s true that deluded people shouldn’t be sheltered from the facts, I simply don’t think screaming at them is good for anyone, including yourself (doing it all the time can cause high-blood-pressure). Call me crazy, but I don’t think calling people names and hollering is likely to get anyone on your side, either. I get it though, I really do, I get so angry at people sometimes, but it’s in my principles to treat everyone like a human being, even if they’re a mis-educated human being.

When I was younger, I used to go to a lot of group-therapy sessions, and they taught us ways to discuss and argue things with people without screaming, using trigger words that, to the subconscious, seem offensive or indicative of hidden motives, etc. Basically, they taught us to make the other person feel comfortable with us through our language and tone, and 9/10, it made for more effective communication. It diffused tensions in general, for both parties. Many people who feel the need to debate don’t know these tips and tricks (I wish I could remember them, maybe I’ll look them up later), and so are at an extreme disadvantage as to promoting emotionally healthy and respectful discussions on both sides. It makes me sad that so many people don’t know how to argue constructively and respectfully, when there really is a better way. If people won’t listen to you that way, they’re not going to change their mind, and they’re not worth your time and energy. Move on to other mediums where you can potentially inspire people who are more open-minded about whatever issues you’re discussing. Isolate those who are receptive, and focus on them.

Remember, if you slip up once in a while and go a little nuts, it just means you’re human, but doing it all the time, in my opinion, is a problem. Food for thought.

I really don’t see the problem with a cis woman creating this, uhm, it’s called EMPATHY. It’s safe to say that a decent number of Tumblr users are a part of the Millennial generation. So, tell us: Do you own a car or house? If not, why?

IT’S BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO DISPOSABLE INCOME YOU THUNDERING IDIOTS. Fucking preference has nothing to do with it. 50% of college graduates have no job! They all have the most student loan debt ever! What are you asking this question for?!

Also: housing is a good bit more expensive now.

My parents got a 15-year mortgage on a new house in the mid-70s. The house was $32,000. Average home price in that area now? $190,000.

So, home prices went up. Food prices went up. Health care prices went WAY UP. Rent prices went up. Higher education went up so damn high that some of us forgo that all together. Energy prices went up. Car prices went up.

Prices of prices went up.

We also pay cell phone bills, internet bills, data plans, text plans, online subscriptions, cable/satellite tv, netflix, DVR subscriptions — bills that didn’t even exist 30-40 years ago. We also use computers and smartphones and microwaves and other consumer electronics that didn’t exist 20-50 years ago.

We need medications and doctors and contact lenses and tampons and maxi pads and other things that cost money just to be alive and keep us healthy.

Most of us can’t afford to:

Get married and have a “Traditional” big wedding

Buy a house

Buy a new car

PLAN to have children

Take two, consecutive weeks of vacation.

Jobs that paid 50k in the late 1990s now pay between 30-35. Interest rates that favor consumers have gone down.

So I say, no. We are not choosing not to buy homes. We’re not choosing to take the bus in cities where there’s no good public transit. WE ARE NOT CHOOSING TO LIVE WHAT SOCIETY DEEMS AS AN UNDESIRABLE LIFESTYLE.

Don’t even get me started on the fact that these two people in the picture are young white hipsters. Young black and brown folks have been forgoing homeownership and buying new cars for decades, this shit isn’t new, pal. You’re just acting like this shit is new because it’s hitting white folks.

anyway, my point is: We are fucking broke.
